The Church of Abu Serga is the oldest Coptic Church in Cairo, the date of the construction is disputed some said that it dates back to the fourth century, and is likely to have ended in the fifth century and some said that it dates back to the seventeenth century.

The church was built above the site where the Holy Family resided during its escape from King Herod to Egypt.
The Church of Abu Serga has great historical significance as many Coptic Church patriarchs were elected and the first patriarch elected to this Church was Patriarch Isaac.

The church takes the form of a basilica with a nave, narthex and 2 aisles, with the cave of the Holy Family being the main structural part of the construction of this church.
