ABYDOS

This historic place is one of the most important places in Upper Egypt that makes you feel glamorous during your visit to it. It is located about 135 km from Luxor, and is also called the El Araba El Madfuna and it has spectacular relics that shed light on the history of the ancient Egyptian Dynasties, There are many monuments located about 3 km from the east-west and 6 km from the south to the north.

Abydos was very important site in ancient Egypt as it was the pilgrimage center where the myth said that after Seth killed his brother Osiris and cut his body, the head was buried in Abydos where King Merenptah added the Osireion. So Egyptians used to go for pilgrimage in Abydos every year and to write their names on the leaves of the Sycamore tree where they believed that this action will protect them in the afterlife.
