Bab Zuweila
Enjoy the glossy discoveries of one of the most famous doors of Egypt's capital, Zuweila Gate, from the popular gates, but this gate in particular was of historical significance. When Hulegu Khan sent six messengers to Cairo to threaten him, Qutuz responded by showing their heads on Bab Zuweila, in addition to the execution of Tuman Bay on that gate also when the Ottoman Empire opened Egypt.
Bab Zuweila, sometimes called al-Mitwally, was named by a Zuweila tribe whose Fatimid soldiers lived near it. The gate has two beautifully decorated minarets that return to the nearby Muaid mosque, which are open to visitors. Once you climb steep grades, you will set your eyes on one of the best views until the end of old Cairo. The gate also shares a wall with the mosque, a must-see landmark in Islamic Cairo.
