Memphis City

The City of Memphis is located in the southern side of Cairo, 20 kilometers away from the capital. The city of Memphis is the main headquarters of the King and was founded after the unification of the Egyptian lands and was the old capital of Egypt during the age of the Old Kingdom, it’s importance was not only for being the first capital of ancient Egypt but also it continued to be the administrative and military capital in the new kingdom. The following cities were Dahshure, Sakkara, Zawyet al-Aryan, Abu Ghraib and Mit Rahina, located within the boundaries of the wonderful and ancient city of Memphis.

 

The city of Memphis was built by king Narmer around 3000 BC, so Memphis was the first center of administration and politics in Central and Lower Egypt, and also Amenhotep II and Thutmose III, the pioneer kings of the 18th century, who often reside in Memphis.
