The Mosque Of Sultan Barsbay

Explore Cairo Mosques with White Bird Travel, visit one of the most famous Mosques in Egypt called The Mosque Of Sultan Barsbay it is located in Al-Moez St. at its intersection with Jawhar Al Qaed Street, in Egypt, It was built in 1425 by Mamluk Sultan Ashraf Saif Al-Din Barsbay, who ruled from 1422 until 1438, and was buried in the northern cemetery in Cairo. 


The mosque is part of the Sultan Barsbay complex, which consists of a Khanqah, a Kuttab and a school and was built primarily for Sufis who wanted to learn the four principles of Islamic law.


Built above street level, the mosque is a great example of the monarchy's hanging mosques. It consists of a square area with an open court and is surrounded by four rooms with open fronts, the largest of which is the hallway. In the direction of prayer (Qiblah), it is three corridors.


Due to the narrow space, the thickness of the inner and outer walls of the mosque varies to give the exterior of a straight-edged square structure.


The Mosque has more names like Sultan Ashraf Barsbay, Mosque, Khanqah of Barsbay, Sabil Kuttab and Mausoleum complex of Sultan Al Ashraf Barsbay, the funeral complex of the superior sultan Barsbay in the market of the coppers and Musk.
